Cannot send an email from RA EasyStart on Win10 through Outlook2016

Legacy KB ID: 5474

Question

Why can’t I send an email from my Reckon Accounts Easy Start 2016?  I am using Outlook 2016 and I am on Windows 10.

Answer

Modify the Registry to enable RA EasyStart to view a 64-bit application.

The Issue

Because of the mix of 32-bit and 64-bit systems and applications, only particular configurations of Outlook 2016 and Reckon Accounts will successfully email through Outlook 2016.

Please follow the steps below that are relevant to your particular circumstances.

You need to know:

Windows 10 – 32-bit or 64-bit system?

Click on WindowsKey +X and select System:

Outlook 2016 – 32-bit or 64-bit installation.

File > Office Account > About Outlook:

Take Note that:

1.    Outlook 2016 must be opened before you send an email from RA EasyStart.

2.    When the Outlook PA review opens, it may do so behind the RA EasyStart window.  You will see a blinking orange icon on your Task Bar,  click it to bring it to the foreground.

3.    “Server Error: Switch to retry” error will come to view when:

a.    The Preview email is left open without clicking send, then clicking back to RA EasyStart. You are more likely to do this if you are not aware that the email preview window has opened behind the RA EasyStart window.

b.    When Outlook is still trying to send the Email sent from RA EasyStart.

c.    Internet connection is a bit slower than the usual and Outlook is still processing the email sent from RA EasyStart.

For users of Windows 10 64 or 32-bit systems with Outlook 2016 32-bit

1.    Make sure that Outlook is set as default via the new settings preferences of Windows 10

a.    Close RA EasyStart and Outlook

b.    Click the Start button > Settings > System (Display, Notifications, apps and power) > Default apps > Click the + sign for email and set outlook as default

-

2.    Re-open RA EasyStart and Outlook 2016

3.    Send an email

For users of Windows 10 64-bit systems with Outlook 2016 64-bit

You will get the message:

1.    Make sure that Outlook is set as default via the new settings preferences of Windows 10.

a.    Close RA EasyStart and Outlookb.    Click the Start button > Settings > ystem (Display, Notifications, apps and power) > Default apps > Click the + sign for email and set outlook as default

2.    As RA EasyStart is a 32-bit application and cannot see a 64-bit Application, you must modify the registry to allow it to see it.

a.    Make a backup of the Registry

b.    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail

c.    Right Click Mail and click Key name it: DLLPath

d.    Right Click Mail again and click another Key name it: DLLPathEx

3.    Find The 32-bit version of your mapi32.dll (the location varies per computer as it contains a unique address)

a.    Open File Explorer

b.    Highlight the C-drive and in  the Search box, type: mapi32.dll

c.    In the Results, find the entry that is both an Application type and relates to a 32-bit system (x86)

d.    Right click it > View File Location > in the Address Bar highlight the path and click Ctrl+C

4.    Return to the registry and click the New Key: DLLPath;

a.    double click the string (Default)

b.    paste the file location of your mapi32.dll,

c.    repeat for the other key DLLPathEX

5.    Now, Click Mail > double click the string (Default) >change the value to Outlook64Bridge.

6.    Close Registry, open RA EasyStart and Outlook 2016 as per normal and send email.
