Reckon Accounts Desktop: The date is in the wrong format, the correct format is MM/DD/YY

Legacy KB ID: 1328

Question

When I import an IIF file, I get the following error: Error on line xx. The date is in the wrong format, the correct format is MM/DD/YY.

xx = The line where the error occurs.

Answer

It is likely that the file has been opened in Excel and the date format has been changed with the changes being saved.

To fix this, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Open the IIF file in Excel:
    1. Right-click on the IIF file.
    2. Select Microsoft Excel.
  2. Alternatively; open the IIF via Excel:
    1. Open Microsoft Excel.
    2. Click Open File.
    3. Click Browse.
    4. To the right of the file name box, change from All excel files to All files.
    5. Navigate to your IIF file.
    6. Open the file.
  3. Make sure the date is in the American format MM/DD/YY.
  4. Make sure the separators are slashes eg: /.
  5. Save and close the file.

You should have no problem importing the data file now.
