Answer

Please follow each of these suggestions until the problem is resolved.

These fixes require that you download and install programs or install programs from a CD/DVD. Be aware that this will take several minutes.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 users.

Turn on Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1.

1.    Control Panel > Programs and Features;

2.    Turn Windows features on or off;

3.    Scroll down the list to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and tick the box;

4.    Click OK to save and exit.

You should now be able to install Reckon Accounts Business without difficulty.

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 error

This error can occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix KB886904 has been installed before installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This situation creates a conflict that does not allow .NET 1.1 SP1 to be installed on the computer. QuickBooks requires Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 to run.

For more information on the conflict, refer to Microsoft knowledge base article 899619. To install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1, you must first remove Hotfix KB886904.

To uninstall the hotfix:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Settings >Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.

  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. The Add or Remove Programs window opens.

  3. Look through the list of programs for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904).

  4. Select the hotfix and click Change/Remove. Follow the instructions to continue removing the hotfix.

  5. Install quickBooks normally.

  6. Reinstall the Hotfix - refer to Microsoft's Security Update download sites for Windows 2000 and XP or for Windows 2003 server.

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 error

To resolve this issue, remove Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and reinstall it. Select the option for your Windows operating system:

Windows Vista or Windows Server 2003 and later

  1. Run the System File Checker (sfc) tool using the /scannow option.

  2. Running sfc will attempt to repair all Windows operating system files, including Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

For more information about using sfc, refer to the following Microsoft knowledge base articles:

  1. Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10:  “Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files”.

  2. Windows Vista: "How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista."

  3. Windows Server 2003:  "Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)".

Windows XP:
Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.

  2. Enter control in the Open field and click OK.

  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  4. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 in the list of programs and click Remove.

  5. If the program uninstalls successfully, then continue with reinstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

  6. If you have a high speed Internet connection, download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 from the Microsoft Web site:

    1. 32 bit version: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86)

    2. 64 bit version: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x64)

      If you are unsure which version to download, refer to "How to determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system."

If you have no internet connectivity (or a dial-up Internet connection), install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 from the QuickBooks/Reckon Accounts CD/DVD:

  1. Insert the Reckon Accounts installation CD/DVD and close the installation window if it opens automatically.

  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Explore.

  3. Browse to D:\ThirdParty\DotNET20, where (D:) is your CD drive letter.

  4. Double-click DotNetfx20.exe to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

If an error occurs, download and run the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool utility and reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, and 1.1 SP1. See Microsoft knowledge base article "Error message when you try to install the .NET Framework..."
