Error connecting to Accounts. Could not start Reckon Accounts, when transferring data from Accounts

Legacy KB ID: 5275

Question

Why can’t I transfer my data from Reckon Accounts to Point of Sale?  I keep getting the error:  Error connecting to Accounts. Could not start Reckon Accounts.

Answer

Run Reboot.bat and if necessary compact the POS database file.

The Issue

This error message will be posted when Point of Sale cannot communicate with Reckon Accounts.  There are a number of reasons why it cannot do so:

1.    The connection between Reckon Accounts and Point of Sale was not properly established;

2.    The POS database file is corrupt.

3.    The security certificate is out of date.

Workaround

Follow each step until the problem is resolved.

Run Reboot.bat

1.    Go to the Reckon Accounts installation directory:

a.    Default:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 20xx

2.    double click on a file called REBOOT.BAT

3.    Open POSAdmin and do a TRANSFER/POST

If the error persists, Compact and Repair the POS database file (QBPOS.PDB)

1.    Click on the compact icon.

2.    Open POSAdmin and do a TRANSFER/POST

If the error persists, restore a backup.

If the error persists, create a new database file.

If the error persists, uninstall Point of Sale and Reckon Accounts and reinstall Reckon Accounts and then Point of Sale.
